Old 2D-C info
An upgraded fast-2D-C probe has twice the sample volume (64 diodes as opposed to 32 diodes) and its electronics circuitry has been made much faster, thereby allowing for the measurement of much smaller particles than what is common with a normal PMS 2D-C probe. The probe was in fact so sensitive that it was able to record giant aerosols in the boundary layer. The fast-2D-C has the same resolution (25 micron, nominally) as does a conventional 2D-C, and this fast-2D-C is a major improvement over prior data sets. RAF also operates another fast 2D-C that is rated at 10 um.

Size spectra from the 2D-C and 2D-P probes are given as both ‘entire in- (see 1D in names below) and with ‘image reconstruction- (see 2D in names below).

1DC_LPC                   ‘Entire in- particle spectrum from the 2D-C probe

2DC_LPC                   ‘Image reconstruction- particle spectrum from the 2D-C probe

1DP_LPC                    ‘Entire in- particle spectrum from the 2D-P probe

2DP_LPC                    ‘Image reconstruction- particle spectrum from the 2D-P probe

CONC1DC                 ‘Entire in- concentration sum of all bins from the 2D-C probe

CONC2DC                 ‘Image reconstruction- concentration sum of all bins from the 2D-C probe

CONC2DC50             ‘Image reconstruction- concentration sum of particles of 50 micron and larger from the 2D-C probe

CONC2DC100           ‘Image reconstruction- concentration sum of particles of 100 micron and larger from the 2D-C probe

CONC2DC150           ‘Image reconstruction- concentration sum of particles of 150 micron and larger from the 2D-C probe

CONC1DP                  ‘Entire in- concentration sum of all bins from the 2D-P probe

CONC2DP                  ‘Image reconstruction- concentration sum of all bins from the 2D-P probe

For the 2D-C concentrations, we recommend using CONC2DC050 for the best compatibility with previous measurements with original (slow) 2D-C probes.
