EOL Organization

NSF NCAR EOL’s organizational structure is composed of a central Directorate and five Facilities, collectively responsible for delivering on its mission to the broader NCAR community.

Within the EOL Directorate you will find the EOL Administration group, the EOL Project Management Office (PMO), and the Design and Fabrication Services (DFS) group, all contributing to the the success of EOL and its initiatives.

Dr. Allison McComiskey

NCAR Associate Director/EOL Director

Allison McComiskey

Allison McComiskey holds the position of NCAR Associate Director and serves as the Director of the Earth Observing Laboratory.  In her role, Allison oversees EOL's programs dedicated to studying Earth's atmosphere through observational research.  She plays a crucial role in ensuring that the research community has access to a portfolio of instrumentation and facilities required to observe the Earth system.  This includes managing resources such as aircraft, ground-based and airborne instrumentation, software, data, and providing expert staff support.  Allison's leadership ensures that EOL remains at the forefront of advancing technologies and capabilities in atmospheric research.

 


Ms. Brigitte Baeuerle

EOL Assistant Director of Operations

Brigitte Baeuerle

Brigitte Baeuerle serves the Assistant Director of Operations in NCAR's Earth Observing Laboratory. In this capacity, she assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of EOL, offering guidance and supervision for essential activities.  Brigitte oversees core operational functions, including the planning and execution of field campaigns, overall project management, system administration, communication both within and outside of the Laboratory, and coordination among various EOL Facilities and groups. In her role, Brigitte engages with the university community, fostering connections.  She plays a key role in maintaining effective communication channels and ensuring seamless collaboration across diverse facets of EOL's operations.  Brigitte has a MS in Oceanography from Oregon State University.

 

 


Ms. Sara Metz

EOL Laboratory Administrator

Sara MetzSara Metz is the Laboratory Administrator in NCAR's Earth Observing Laboratory.  In her role, she is responsible for the laboratory budget, financial, and administrative management. Sara has a BA in Economics from Smith College in Massachusetts.

 



 

EOL Facility Management

Mr. Terry Hock

EOL In-situ Sensing Facility (ISF) | Manager

Terry HockTerry Hock is an Engineer IV within EOL and the Facility Manager of EOL's In-situ Sensing Facility. Terry has both a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, with focus on Electromagnetic Theory. At NCAR since 1982, Terry has led several major instrumentation developments, primarily focused on dropsonde technology on manned and unmanned airborne systems. He has been involved with the dropsonde technology transfer for licensing to commercial companies, which has expanded the dropsonde technology worldwide to multiple international research institutions. Terry and his team have won numerous UCAR Technology Achievement Awards including the CO-LABS High-Impact Research in Atmospheric Research award. 

 


Dr. Michael Dixon

EOL Remote Sensing Facility (RSF) | Manager

Michael DixonMike Dixon is a Software Engineer IV and the Facility Manager of EOL's Remote Sensing Facility. Mike has a PhD in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University.  Mike is originally from South Africa and has been with NCAR since 1990.

 

 


Dr. Pavel Romashkin

EOL Research Aviation Facility (RAF) | Acting Manager

Pavel Romashkin

Pavel Romashkin currently holds the postion of Acting Facility Manager for EOL's Research Aviation Facility, where he leads RAF operations.  Additionally, Pavel serves as the Group Lead of RAF's project management team within the aviation facility.  In this capacity, Pavel assumes a central role in assessing feasibilities, organizing and implementing airborne field projects that utilize the NSF C-130 and GV aircraft.  He is also responsible for the critical tasks of reviewing and quality controling the data generated from those projects.   Originally from Russia, Pavel received his M.S. degree in geochemistry from the Novosibirsk State University (Russia) in 1993 and later completed his Ph.D. in geochemistry and paleoclimatology from the University of South Carolina in 1997.  

 


Mr. Gregg Fahrenbruch

EOL Research Aviation Facility (RAF) | Aviation Operations Manager

Gregg Fahrenbruch

Gregg holds the position of Aviation Operations Manager at our Research Aviation Facility. He is a seasoned executive in the aviation industry, with over 15 years of experience in the growth and leadership of successful private aviation enterprises. His career is marked by innovation, collaboration, and delivering superior value to clients.  As an expert in FAA compliance, aviation strategy, and aircraft modification programs, Gregg brings valuable knowledge and experience to NSF NCAR EOL.  He remains passionate about his contributions to the industry and looks forward to future opportunities for growth and innovation at RAF.

 


Ms. Jacquie Witte

EOL Data Management and Services Facility (DMS) | Acting Manager

Jacquie Witte

Jacquie Witte is a project scientist who holds the position of Acting Facility Manager for EOL's Data Management and Services Facility and Lead Data Manager at the In Situ Sensing Facility. Jacquie started her career in atmospheric science research and data management at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and has been at NCAR since 2019.

 


Ms. Cara Coad

EOL Design and Fabrication Services (DFS) | Manager

Cara Coad

Cara Coad serves as the Manager for NSF NCAR EOL's Design and Fabrication Services (DFS). She is responsible for project execution, continuous improvement, staffing, and budget for DFS. Cara has more than 35 years of experience in mechanical design with a specialty in mechatronics and robotics. Cara has successfully led mechanical engineering teams in the development of surgical robotic systems and medical devices. Cara has a BS and MS from University of California, Berkeley.
