Who We Are

The Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL), as one of NCAR's seven laboratories, plays a pivotal role in the advancement of climate, weather, and Earth System science within the university-based research community.  It achieves this by offering cutting-edge atmospheric observing systems, expert leadership, and scientific guidance.  EOL's responsibilities encompass the management of a significant portion of the Lower Atmosphere Observing Facilities (LAOF), which are part of the NSF Facilities for Atmospheric Research and Education (FARE) program.  These facilities are deployed in support of observational field campaigns that are proposed by researchers from US universities, government agencies, and NCAR itself.  Additionally, EOL is dedicated to supporting educational efforts.  To fulfill its mission, EOL relies on innovative application of state-of-the-art technology and tools, organized into four key initiatives: development, deployment, data service, and discovery.
