MITTS
Monitoring the Intensification and Track of Tropical Storms
The purpose of MITTS (Monitoring the Intensification and Track of Tropical Storms) project is to support NOAA operational hurricane tracking and observations while the G-IV is undergoing repairs. The NSF/NCAR GV will be outfitted with AVAPS to take observations of developing and mature tropical systems in the tropics when needed. The GV will deploy to Tampa, FL and fly missions at the request of NOAA, returning to Broomfield in between IOPs. Data collected will support operational forecasters and models to help provide better forecasts of tropical storm strength and track.
