As part of its mission, EOL promotes curiosity about Earth science and fosters an advanced understanding of the processes involved in observational research. EOL offers a wide array of unique education and training opportunities that lie within the broad scope of its scientific activities and engineering capabilities. Imperative to EOL's mission is attracting and inspiring the next generation of observational scientists and engineers. EOL provides engineering and technical support internships, advanced science visitor programs, and workshops to encourage and support new users of the NSF Lower Atmosphere Observing Facilities (LAOF) in partnership with the academic community.
EOL Undergraduate Internships
EOL Summer Undergraduate Program for Engineering Research (SUPER) Internship
EOL's Summer Undergraduate Program for Engineering Research (SUPER) provides a unique and valuable experience to prepare engineering students for successful careers. SUPER interns work hands-on with EOL engineers in Boulder, Colorado, on atmospheric observing systems, including radar, lidar, and sounding, and may spend part of the summer participating in a field deployment operating and supporting one or more EOL observing systems.
EOL Technical Internship Program (TIP)
EOL's Technical Internship Program (TIP) provides semester-long opportunities for students to gain valuable hands-on skills to prepare for scientific support careers. TIP interns work on projects with EOL scientific and science support staff to learn skills to assist them in their career and academic advancement. Areas for internships include electronics technicians; computer system help-desk support; data loading technicians; entry-level programming and scripting; instrument makers; and aircraft mechanics.
