WAMO/ICARE
Western Atmospheric Mercury Observations
PROJECT DATES
10/14/2010 - 12/21/2010
Project Location
Mather, CA
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Western Atmospheric Mercury Experiment (WAMO) is a pilot project exploring an important phenomenon of the mercury cycle in the atmosphere. The project will test the ability of research instrumentation to measure reactive and non-reactive mercury species and to relate these measurements to the atmospheric aerosol concentrations.
WAMO used the C-130 aircraft, which flew three research flights from Mather Airport near Sacramento, CA. The flights targeted Mt. Bachelor and other mountain ridges in Nevada and overflew ground observing stations.
During WAMO, the C-130 ferried to France for a single intercomparison flight under the umbrella of ICARE.
