Chris and I arrived about 4:30! willow: - tried out the NETS e-net adaptor. it worked for my laptop, but wouldn't let any other devices (cosmos,aircoa1,aircoa3) through. ended up reinstalling breezecom (yet again!) after managing to completely shut off communication to the NETS Cisco box. - rebooted cosmos several times - left aircoa3 unplugged to see if this helps pine: - cycled power on upper breakout box, which revived CR10x (rads) - changed Hydra dessicant - removed Li7500 - retrieved my hat! aspen: - installed Li7500 and rebooted (to change config), but then marigold died. marigold back up when I checked at 9:30pm -- did Gordon fix something? li7500 data still not coming in. might be strange serial connections inside DAQ box. left site about 6:20pm

Aspen: - installed new hilo pump -- works a lot better (but needed to be connected to the transformer input - Moved TRH.6m to 2m to test affect of noise - changed mote 16 batteries - swapped HiCal cylinders with one of Sean's labeled 401.8ppm. I didn't remember how to set the regulator, so I just made it about equal to LoCal. Willow: - changed mote 20 batteries - installed D-Link e-net adaptor, but made things worse. Chris will go back up tonight to reinstall the Breezecom

Today was mostly a hydra reconfiguration day (I'll make a separate entry next.) Here are the non-hydra things we did: aspen: - verified that the regenerative blower can't handle the flow resistance. will try to order a reciprocating pump ASAP. - Turned off hilo pumps for about 10 minutes, ending 10:50 to evaluate source of noise on TRH [NO EFFECT -- pumps aren't generating noise] all 3 sites: - recorded mote locations with differential GPS system.

w/Chris: w: - kleaned krypton at 2m - read gauges: Hical ~900/Local ~1400 [chris should update] - found mote 21 trampled and all but one sensor pulled. Reset post, taped up box, replanted probes. (profile to the East, orange to SW, yellow stayed planted to W, green to N) p: - kleaned krypton at 2m - inventoried extra decabond tubing and fittings (10) [chris has numbers] - retaped sign a: - replaced 330uF cap in TRH.2m in trailer (100uF replaced in lab) - hung old TRH.2m -- still noisy; tried to plug in new power supply, plugged in wrong at first, checked power supply internal wiring, fixed minor problems, plugged in correctly -- noise is gone. left power supply running all tower sensors (powering the breakout boxes) - propped hilo blower box open -- did help cool - new batteries in mote 16 - new batteries (and solar reconnected) in mote 26 - read gauges: Hical now very low, others okay [chris?] - kleaned krypton at 2m - retaped sign Now, ALL sensors working! (But still pretty sure that hilo.a blower isn't working well enough.)

These are the heights I measured of sonics on pine and aspen. TRH inlet locations should be the same. Aspen: 1m = 2.09-1.00+0.09 = 1.18m 2m = 2.09+0.12 = 2.21m (but just to the base of the CSAT mounting block. need to add ~5cm) 6m = 5.76+0.12 = 5.88m (to top of boom, array center ~55cm higher) 10m = 9.42+0.86 = 10.28m 17m = 16.76+0.86 = 17.62m 30m = 29.60+0.89 = 30.49m (base of CSAT block. add ~5cm) Pine: 1m = 3.13-1.71-0.03 = 1.39m 2m = 3.13-0.96 = 2.17m (base of CSAT block. add ~5cm) 6m = 4.96+0.86 = 5.82m 10m = 8.63+0.86 = 9.49m 17m = 15.91+0.86 = 16.77m 30m = 28.76+0.88 = 29.64m (base of CSAT block. add ~5cm)

Aspen ~1030-1300: - retensioned guy wires -- took up 5 clicks total - swapped HC11 in 30m sonic -- now krypton data okay - checked 30m hilo inlet -- looks okay - checked 30m TRH noise -- lower w/o Tsfc, but still there. Swapped with 2m TRH. TRH now at 30m is okay, even with Tsfc. TRH now at 2m still very noisy -- especially with Tsfc. Spare Tsfc acts the same as mounted Tsfc. TRH that was at 30m brought back to Boulder -- now no TRH at 2m. - installed mote 16 and replanted probes. All data were okay with probes sitting on the ground. black and brown failed once planted. This is too frustrating -- I'm giving up. - replaced batteries at mote 26 with non-rechargable alkalines and disconnected solar panel -- seems okay. - replace HiLo ref cylinder with one left over from Niwot02 labeled: "hydra ref" 228.12ppm - removed empty ref cylinder - measured boom heights -- see next logbook entry. Pine ~1330-1500: - retensioned guy wires -- 13 clicks total - Performed huff test on hydra using rrelay with Sean. Delay times ~ 1s/m. No mislabeled inlets found. - measured boom heights -- see next logbook entry Willow ~1515-1600: - retensioned guy wires, some were 50lbs, now all >100lb. - replaced Hilo HiCal with Airgas cylinder from CU labeled 409.2ppm. - removed empty HiCal and Ref cylinders. - took photos of Windsonic -- it is ~1m higher than the "ref" at 6m

I did a quick visit yesterday afternoon (26 Aug): Willow (first): - changed Mote 22 batteries and reconnected power cable (accidentally pulled), also pulled solar panel plugs. Now working again Pine: - replaced TRH.2m.p, tested connection to Tsfc (seems okay). A/D was set to mV, Steve S. changed coefs by factor of 10 about an hour later. Aspen: - tested Mote 16 (later found out was reporting volts, not degrees) which was reading quite high. Ended up pulling out entire string for lab testing.

John and I did a site visit Monday, 23 Aug. The hilo.a recal (logbook #99) was part of this visit. We also: Willow (visited after pine): - attempted, but failed to install optoisolator - noted that HiCal pressure is pegged at 0 Pine: - cleaned 2 & 30m.p kryptons - rezeroed 1m.p sonic (to make tc more reasonable) - replanted the red Tsoil at mote 12 (p), noting that the green Tsoil seems to be in the profile location (i.e. Tsoil.A.a.5cm.p and Tsoil.A.d.5cm.p are switched) Aspen (first stop): - remounted sonic 10m.a? Aspen (concurrent with willow visit): - recalibrated hilo.a (see logbook #99)

A strange day (friday the 13th): We made changes that we were sure would fix problems but often they didn't... Aspen: - loaded NCHAN=1 into serializer, but still converting 2 channels. why?? - repaired mote 26 Tsoil wire break, but still losing d.5cm. why?? (also still losing mote 16 a.15cm, now a.5cm, but didn't see break to fix) - looked at transformer/resecured AC plug (which briefly fell out) - hung warning sign Pine: - hung mote 25 -- now working. - hung TRH.6m -- now working - repaired mote 12 Tsoil breaks, but still losing a.5cm, b.5cm, c.5cm. why?? - repaired mote 13 Tsoil breaks -- fixed. - hung warning sign

Aspen: - mounted "fixed" csat at 30m -- still might have serializer cabling issues - affixed HiLo tubing to this sonic - reattached daughter boards on Motes 24 and 26 - Tony lowered HiLo ref flow, since tank down to 1100 - pulled off Gill R2 at 6m along with cabling for lab testing - Britt/Andy had moved aircoa2 here on Sunday. Daisy: - installed BB optoisolators on ch 217&218 - turned of hydra C3 which had leaked - reset hydra dry flow from 50 to 25 (since dessicant was full -- replaced dessicant) - reattached daughter board on Mote 25; tried Mote 15 as well, but saw funny lights: green then red+yellow, rather than just red Willow: - removed BB optoisolators since don't seem to work -- brought back to lab - cycled power on HiLo6251, but serializer still dies after 6s - HiLo ref was empty, replumbed to absolute mode, now 6251 serializer okay (problem when signal is negative?) Tasks: - still more motes to check - still need to shoot 30.a and most .w boom angles - fix/replace 1&6m.a sonics - some T/RH issues??
- 47: LOG, Site pine, Fri 30-Jul-2004 21:28:40 MDT, WSU gone

Willow: - disconnected aircoa serial signals. The 25s noise disappeared, so we'll keep on running this way (since Gordon now has aircoa data also coming over the network). - Gordon corrected the config for the WindSonic. Pine: - replaced 2m krypton stub cable with RTV sealed one - noted that cylinder pressures were all "close to 2000" Aspen: - RTV sealed 2m krypton stub cable. All are now sealed - Determined (perhaps incorrectly) that 30m CSAT is completely dead. Removed and brought back to lab - Fixed the several wiring problems in HiLo relay control and started and adjusted HiLo flows: - 6 lpm when sampling - -1 lpm on sample when calibrating - barely perceptable flow through ref. I had to adjust the cylinder regulators to about 5 on ref, 30 on HiCal, and 38 on LoCal, though I then used the needle valves to back these down somewhat. - set HiLo to cme_hilo program - rewired ethernet connector. All are now set to pins 1-4. Tasks: - check willow blackbox power -- motes are dead - determine fixes for 3 aspen sonics (rent??) - fix TRH.2m.a (too large T, even after "MR") - shoot remaining boom angles (30m aspen, 10,17m willow) - note all heights

Willow: - Tony finished HiLo connections to cal/ref gases - Aircoa - traced power/ground -- all looks okay - tested no interference from HiLo - fixed serial comm: wrong com port - added network to aircoa2 - shot boom angles using datascope for 1,2,6m Pine: - hydra: - fixed cme_hilo.txt -- one valve setting off IMPORTANT HYDRA NOTE: prior to today, C4 was never being used. C3 was during C4's time slot, C2 was during C3's time slot and C1 was during C2's time slot. No air was flowing during C1's time slot. Since "mode.hydra.p" is derived from the actual valve setting, it should correctly sort all of this out without modification. - set calib flows using secondary regulators - shot boom angles using datascope for 1,2,6,10m Aspen: - Gordon installed marigold!!! - shot boom angles using datascope for 1,2,6,10m - removed 1m sonic for repair Tasks: - drop extension cord at aspen - fix 1m aspen sonic, return to tower - check/fix aspen HiLo valve control - start aspen HiLo - debug 30m aspen sonic (bypass serializer -- bring spare???) - debug 6m aspen sonic (gill) - add 2m aspen krypton cable - sextant boomangle shoot at 30m aspen - install optoisolators at pine - figure out why optoisolator killed mote at willow - fix config for WindSonic

Left to do on Aspen: - mount Gill sonic - mount 2m Tsfc - figure out why network isn't up (bad e-net cable? Stn Adaptor not turned on?) I think both should be okay, though I brought up new e'net cables to replace one I borrowed from Sean and a PAM cable. I can't get into the box now due to rain. - dress cables at base of tower - check dressing of upper cables (2/6/10m) - connect pressure port hose We should be able to do all this today. Things we won't do today: - extend 10m ATI cable (2m too short :( ) - deploy Tsoils - deploy HiLo (need to build the Li7000 box! [and deploy tubing]) - put caps on all exposed connectors (there are a bunch) - and, of course, clean kryptons

today was monstly for mounting aspen sensors. we didn't get marigold running due to a wrong power cable end. we didn't mount CSATs due to no krypton box clamps. we didn't mount the lowest nuw due to the boom needding to be milled. otherwise, most things were done.
