- 152: co2, Site aspen, Wed 29-Sep-2004 12:49:41 MDT, LICOR 7500 up on Marigold
-
THe Licor 7500 is now going through serial port 215 on Marigold (pine).
- 151: data_system, Site aspen, Wed 29-Sep-2004 11:33:16 MDT, marigold reboot
-
Just rebooted marigold (twice) to load configs which put Li7500 on channel 215, since 212's Emerald port was stolen by 200, etc.
- 145: hygro_thermometers, Site aspen, Mon 27-Sep-2004 11:17:15 MDT, work at Aspen on 9/24, TRH
-
I was working on the TRH sensors at Aspen between 1:30 and 3:30 on 9/24. During this time I moved the 6 meter TRH back up to 6 meters. TESTS: There was 3 tests I conducted on the 2m TRH. The first was to disconnect the TRH from the data system completely and see if noise was still existing on the temperature channel. The results showed a small amount of variation, approximately .02 C. It was not obvious if this was a noise problem of just random changes in the atmosphere. The second test was too put a fixed voltage reference in on the temperature channel. In this case the output signal was solid with no changes. The third test was with the reference signal as input with the TRH communicating with marigold. Based on Splus plots the noise was not present. As a fourth test we will change the 50Y probe. Unfortunately I do not have an extra probe. Will try in the next day or two.
- 108: hygro_thermometers, Site aspen, Sat 28-Aug-2004 21:56:56 MDT, Oscillation in 30m TRH
-
I've just noticed that all of the outputs from the 30m TRH have an alternate sample oscillation -- in T of about 0.5C now. This has been the case since the beginning of the aspen data set (I just spot-checked 8/27, 8/20, 8/2 data), though the amplitude varies. For testing, I just reduced the number of channels to 2 ("CHNL 0 1" command to the TRH) and still see the oscillation, though only with a 0.1 C amplitude. I've returned it back to 4 channels. Undoubtedly, this is due to the Tsfc being connected -- even when it isn't being converted. Should we switch this Tsfc to the CR10 box?
- 106: co2, Site aspen, Fri 27-Aug-2004 10:08:06 MDT, hilo.a cals changed from 9 to 19 hrs
-
Given that the aspen HiCal now also is getting low, I've just lowered the calibration cycle to 19 hours, as I did to willow last weekend.
- 99: co2, Site aspen, Mon 23-Aug-2004 15:21:24 MDT, hilo.a recal
-
Sean and I just attempted a recal of the li7000 for hilo.a. With N2 into both cells, CO2 read +48 before cal. then did "make B=A" on H2O and CO2 With N2 into cellA, HiCal into cellB, CO2 read about 120 then did "make B=395.45" (from Britt) Then put LoCal into cellB, reads 359.5 (should be 337). Thus, still strange, but better than it was?? Back to original setup, cellB=10 (with ref=310 is still low)
- 98: sonics, Site aspen, Sat 21-Aug-2004 21:43:52 MDT, 10m aspen sonic dead

12:30-12:45 Mote 16 Needs AA batteries! Has low voltage. Tried to add foil around posts for 16,24,25 but not 15. Need to bring trowel to dig the wires into the gnd from post to where probe is. Lightning in area, decided to wait / move-on.
- 81: krypton, Site aspen, Tue 17-Aug-2004 13:00:32 MDT, Cleaned 2m Kh20

12:25 local Distilled water used. Note began raining within 15min or so afterwards so the data may not show improved signal for a bit.
- 80: co2, Site aspen, Tue 17-Aug-2004 12:59:25 MDT, Reset Aircoa
-
12:30 local Aircoa data system had been down. Performed reset on cpu.
- 65: radiation, Site aspen, Tue 10-Aug-2004 14:06:47 MDT, PAR gain changed
-
Just changed PAR gain in the CR10x from 0.25869 to 0.22930 (which is what it should be for Q89084: 138.5/604 = 0.22930.
- 48: co2, Site aspen, Sat 31-Jul-2004 21:57:38 MDT, marigold li7000 reset
-
I finally got around to checking the Li7000 settings at marigold, which were off. Following the settings given in my WWW cheet sheet, I set: (Pump (FlowRate Slow)) (Reference (H2O Dry)) (Reference (CO2 Zero)) (RS232 (Rate 10Hz)) (RS232 (Timestamp None)) (RS232 (Sources ("P kPa" "RH %" "T C" "Flow V" "CO2A abs" "CO2B abs" "CO2A um/m" "CO2B um/m" "H2OA mm/m" "H2OB mm/m"))) (Filter (Time 0)) They are set using rserial. Note that all commands are terminated by a linefeed (not return). I removed the "W" values given on my cheet sheet and just set the format to licor_7000_3 to compensate. Hopefully, we are now taking reasonable data!

Finally, a data-system at the aspen site! This is a new prometheus: SN# #237296 Emerald#0: W241864 Emerald#1: W242889 Lab testing of emerald W241864 indicated that port 0 (/dev/ttyS4, which is normally channel 200) does not receive characters. Also emerald W242889, port 2 (/dev/ttyS14, normally channel 210) did not receive characters. To work around these bad ports, I changed connections at the patch panel. The sensors are still connected to the same ports on the break-out boxes, but inside the data-system box, channel 200 is connected to port 4 on emerald#1 (/dev/ttyS16) and channel 210 is connected to port 5 on emerald#1 (/dev/ttyS17). Here is channel.txt: 200 /dev/ttyS16 201 /dev/ttyS5 202 /dev/ttyS6 203 /dev/ttyS7 204 /dev/ttyS8 205 /dev/ttyS9 206 /dev/ttyS10 207 /dev/ttyS11 208 /dev/ttyS12 209 /dev/ttyS13 210 /dev/ttyS17 211 /dev/ttyS15 216 /dev/ttyS0 217 /dev/ttyS2 218 /dev/ttyS3

This comment from yesterday, when I couldn't get through on the net: Location is about 8m N of the outer SE guy point, in a peat bog. I mixed up Brown and Black, so Brown is at 15cm, Black is at 10cm, and the rest at 5cm. All holes filled up with water to about 5cm when dug out, so the sensors were installed at, or below, water line in peat. This should complete installation of all the Tsoil probes!

Left to do on Aspen: - mount Gill sonic - mount 2m Tsfc - figure out why network isn't up (bad e-net cable? Stn Adaptor not turned on?) I think both should be okay, though I brought up new e'net cables to replace one I borrowed from Sean and a PAM cable. I can't get into the box now due to rain. - dress cables at base of tower - check dressing of upper cables (2/6/10m) - connect pressure port hose We should be able to do all this today. Things we won't do today: - extend 10m ATI cable (2m too short :( ) - deploy Tsoils - deploy HiLo (need to build the Li7000 box! [and deploy tubing]) - put caps on all exposed connectors (there are a bunch) - and, of course, clean kryptons

today was monstly for mounting aspen sensors. we didn't get marigold running due to a wrong power cable end. we didn't mount CSATs due to no krypton box clamps. we didn't mount the lowest nuw due to the boom needding to be milled. otherwise, most things were done.
- 28: status, Site aspen, Wed 14-Jul-2004 17:57:34 MDT, aspen booms mostly up
-
Today was spent setting up booms on aspen. We have a few more guy wires (mostly down-guys) which need turnbuckles that we didn't have. Today also Jielun, Sean, Roberto, and Tony worked to get the hydra analyzer and cal gases installed. The hydra inlet tubes still need both to be connected to hydra and inlet filters installed. I tried, but failed, to get the opto22 stuff running -- I'm not sure yet why.
